Higher Education and the Work Environment
You’ll develop your understanding of the work sector and the role that individuals take in influencing its performance within the context and environment that influence the operation of organisations. You'll explore the impact of political, social and economic factors on the sector and consider the legal and ethical frameworks informing the sector. You'll also reflect on your current or potential roles within the work sector. You'll develop self-awareness and reflective ability appropriate to your position in the organisation. This module encourages you to reflect on how national policy influences your organisation whether state, private or third sector and the influence of local and national policies and standards.
Planning and Managing Resources
This module provides you with a fundamental understanding of the importance of effective resource management in Health and Social Care and the further development of relevant employability and professional skills. You’ll explore resource management with an emphasis on the understanding and use of appropriate theories to explain the ways in which business organisations respond to issues and problems within a health related context. You’ll develop a basic knowledge of how quantitative information aids management in resource planning, controlling and decision making.
Valuing People and Fostering Dignity and Respect
You’ll develop an informed and insightful understanding of the significance of the individual in health and social care settings including the ethical principles that are essential when caring for individuals and fostering dignity and respect. You’ll advance your understanding of respecting the uniqueness and strengths of individuals and groups who may be socially excluded and develop your understanding of rights, power, and responsibility within the practice of health and social care. The module will also equip you with a sound philosophical base to help you think about ethical dilemmas, conflicts, contradictions and tensions. It'll explore how interpersonal skills can be developed to be responsive to the diverse needs of clients.
Working Collaboratively
The purpose of this module is to enable you to become aware of the importance of multi-professional and inter-professional team working, operating in a collaborative way and being an effective member of the team.
Research and Critical Thinking
The module will develop your understanding of the research process, including the major approaches to research, ethical considerations and research design. You’ll improve your awareness of the use of published research to underpin professional practice within the context of evidenced-based practice. It is important for health and social care professionals to understand the evidence-base for their area of practice and gaining an understanding of the research process will help you develop a more quizzical and critical approach in your workplace.
Leadership Practice
Effective leadership is essential to providing high quality practice in health and social care settings. This module will require you to consider your own leadership skills; empowering you to develop the necessary leadership skills in order to become a facilitator and motivator of change in the workplace. You’ll focus upon contemporary theories of leadership such as transformational leadership, distributive and leaderful practice and the notions which underpin leadership such as personal dispositions, values and skills.
Managing People and Processes
This module will provide an insight into human resource management functions and issues. You’ll be introduced to both the theoretical basis for HR Management and the range of activities covered by the function. You’ll explore the link between the quality of care delivery and HR management strategy and to apply relevant theories and concepts to your workplace. You’ll investigate the theoretical principles which underpin best practice in your workplace/organisation with regard to recruitment, interviewing, motivation and retention of staff, appraisal practices and reward management. You’ll also compare and contrast approaches from culturally diverse backgrounds in order to broaden your horizons of health and social care delivery.
Work-Based Project 2
This module provides the opportunity to broaden or deepen your understanding of a given relevant work-based topic through undertaking a project using self-directed learning. You’ll submit a project proposal, including a rationale, showing you have made informed decisions about your intended topic. You’ll then implement your proposed change to working practice and evaluate the effectiveness of this change.
Assessment
You’ll be assessed on a module-by-module basis via a number of methods including reports, presentations, essays, portfolios and reflection. You can contextualize your assignments to meet your specific professional and personal needs. This impacts positively on your practice and facilitates personal development.
