Peter Molloy

Applying new skills I have learnt on the course to my work in the classroom and seeing the positive affects it has to the children’s learning and development has been truly rewarding.

Based in the Middle East Peter is has chosen to fulfil his aspirations of becoming a teacher and has chosen to extend his studies to a full honours degree with ARU.

ARU is a well-established, internationally recognised University. I chose to do a degree here to improve my career opportunities and personal aspirations of becoming a teacher.

Distance learning is a perfect option for me due to living and working in the Middle East. The tutors are very helpful and we also have a forum to allow fellow students to support each other, so you still get the benefits of peer support as you would if you were learning in a classroom.

Recognising that my input can make improvements so quickly, has given me the drive to make every minute with my students matter.

Seeing a positive impact to a child’s education

Applying new skills I have learnt on the course to my work in the classroom and seeing the positive affects it has to the children’s learning and development has been truly rewarding

My work based assignment focused on improving fine motor skills within the classroom. The transformation of the children’s abilities over a short space of time was amazing. Recognising that my input can make improvements so quickly, has given me the drive to make every minute with my students matter.

It has improved my professional development as an educator and the potential to fulfil my goals as a teacher.

Going forward, the top-up degree will give me the opportunity to improve my subject knowledge and my understanding of how children learn, to support their future development.

Tips for students

Make sure you are passionate about the subject that you are taking and go for it! If I can do it so can you!

Understand the first year is a learning year. Give yourself extra time to find out what works and what doesn’t work when learning and studying. Don’t be afraid to speak out if you don’t understand something.
