Tara Luckie

The course provided ways in which to understand and embed key healthcare management theories and concepts into my day to day practice. This has enabled me to influence and undertake change.

Tara graduated in October 2018. She currently works as an Occupational Health Specialist at ALDARA Medical Centre in Saudi Arabia.

The MSc has helped me to understand leadership on a whole new level. Engaging and completing the different modules has instilled a deep understanding of the importance of interpersonal professional relationships in organisations.

The in-depth leadership and management knowledge acquired have facilitated personal confidence and allowed me to challenge senior colleagues, I never was brave enough to do this 3 years ago.

Despite studying online in a different part of the world and a different time zone, this was never apparent. Whenever I needed support and advice it was always swift and very helpful.

Students can influence and initiate change

I work in Saudi Arabia and change is very difficult here. The work force is male dominated, culturally it’s very different and there’s huge resistance to change. Underpinning theoretical concepts into my practice has enabled me to influence and undertake change. It’s been challenging, however very notable business and practice changes have occurred which gives me huge pride and tremendous satisfaction.

Why ARU?

The course tutors were excellent, flexible, knowledgeable and committed to assist whenever needed. I cannot fault them at all. The support staff were equally amazing.

I experienced two unplanned situations during my course whereby on one occasion I submitted my work to an expired link. Once noted this was rectified and I wasn’t penalised.

All ARU staff from my experience and perspective were amazing. My course leader and my final project coordinator were both very motivational, supportive and inspiring.

Help was offered and provided throughout the course and was faultless. Their enthusiasm empowered me on this journey especially when I felt that I couldn’t complete work that was expected as part of the course.

The ARU online facilities and course work resources were very comprehensive and sufficient to achieve my work. I purchased some recommended texts as I personally like to read books, however I must say that the online library facilities were extraordinary.

Despite studying online in a different part of the world and a different time zone, this was never apparent. Whenever I needed support and advice it was always swift and very helpful.

Tips for students

Explore all the courses available to suit your needs – in addition if possible speak to a course facilitator to ask any pertinent questions and then if you’re satisfied – go for it!

My advice is that you really have to be serious about the course that you’re pursuing, as self- directed learning is not easy. You have to be organised and for me you really have to be interested in the subject matter. If not, you may find that staying focused and motivated will be extremely difficult.

The course provided ways to understand and embed key healthcare management theories and concepts into my day to day practice. It’s expanded and broaden my thoughts and behaviours and strategic practices rather than just operational. I definitely think and work differently now.
