What Equipment Do You Need For An Online Degree Programme?

The clue is, of course, in the name. To be able to follow any of our online degree programmes, you’ll need regular – ideally daily – access to our innovative Learning Management System (LMS).

Broadband access is preferable, but don’t worry if you only have dial-up access at home, as you can still get online and access our LMS – it might just take a little longer.

Occasionally you may want to discuss an aspect of your online degree course online with your supervisor or tutor – or even with fellow students – and for such conversations, having a headphone and microphone set will also prove helpful.

If your employer is supportive of your quest for qualifications, you may even be able to negotiate access to a workplace computer with faster speeds during your lunch hour or after your normal working day is over.

All course materials and tutorials for our distance learning degrees are delivered via our excellent LMS by members of Anglia Ruskin’s internationally renowned staff and by experienced educators from our partner establishments in the UK, the US and Europe.

Learn to Lead and Manage Change

Considering a large majority of our learners are studying for qualifications to improve their career prospects, it’s unsurprising many are looking for ways to boost their leadership and management abilities in preparation for climbing the ladder.

While some assume the terms management and leadership are interchangeable, in reality, that’s not the case at all. Admittedly, some skills are transposable for both managers and leaders, with others are very specific, but it depends on whether you’re leading a group of people or simply managing them.

The main thing to bear in mind is that a manager’s job involves planning, organising and co-ordinating, while the role of a leader involves inspiring and motivating.

Oftentimes, the decision of whether you’d like to lead or manage comes back to your own personal style and what you feel comfortable with, although it can often be determined by the nature of your industry or position as well.

To deal with the different skill sets required to take on the roles, we offer different courses, specifically our MA in Leadership and Management and BA (Hons) in Management.

The MA Leadership course focuses mainly on the skills you’ll need to lead and inspire within a work environment. For instance, it’ll allow you to handle a wide range of complex organisational issues from a leadership standpoint, and teach you to measure your own effectiveness as a leader.

The BA Management course on the other hand, focuses on management principles, with students learning how to effectively manage a team’s workload and ensure everything that needs to be taken care of, is taken care of.

Naturally, there are overlapping instances between each of them, and both will allow you to oversee the operations of a group of employees in a style which suits you.
