Studying in later life has been very rewarding. I enjoy the challenge and being introduced to new skills, it has also opened up new employment opportunities.

Guy is studying with us online and whilst working in Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar.

I had a strong desire to improve my academic abilities and this degree represented a good opportunity to enhance them. The course recognised the skills that I’ve obtained during my military service to reduce the length of my study.

Studying in later life has been very rewarding. Not only do I enjoy the challenge and being introduced to new skills, I have found that learning is very satisfying, and my desire to develop my academic skills has grown further. It has also opened up new employment opportunities.

I am now considering applying for a new position after graduating that would have been impossible without this qualification.

Tips for students

It’s very important to organise your time well so you can devote enough time to your study. It doesn’t have to be hours and hours every day. I studied almost every day – sometimes for 30 minutes where I would just recap on the previous day’s work. On other occasions I could study for several hours. It depended on my mood and work schedule.

Access your course every day, even if it is only for 10 minutes. If you don’t then your recall and understanding of information will fade. Accessing your course daily will keep this spark alight.

Before starting your studies, you must be sure that you are doing it for the right reasons. As a distance learner, considerable self-motivation is required. Allocate sufficient time and enjoy the process of learning.

Why ARU?

The skills that I have learnt have been useful in developing my future career opportunities.

It has been a very positive experience. I certainly have ignited a desire to undertake further studies and become a lifelong learner.

I feel that I’ve benefited immensely from studying this degree. It has improved my basic writing skills, which I haven’t used in an academic setting for almost 20 years.
